Bowie Knife

Our Top 5 Picks:

Some knives are legendary. The daggers of Europe, the flint knives carried by Apache warriors and the knives carried into the battles of World War 2 all carry with them fearsome reputations, and justly so. Bowie knives are among those blades which have become the stuff of legend. Like a samurai’s sword or a Spartan’s spear tip, these Bowies have characteristics that make them easily identifiable and unfailingly deadly.

Customer Reviews:
"I guarantee that this will be the best [...] that you will ever spend for a knife. And compared to others of this level, I would expect to pay triple the price. The blade comes sharp as a razor out of the box and stays that way. I use it and abuse it, give it a few licks with the included sharpening stone, then I'm back in business. I never go hiking without it and it can easily take down small trees, tree limbs, cut cording, rope, dig a hole, whatever you need done, it can do it. Hands down, no questions asked. I am never afraid to use this thing. I've paid 3 times more for half the quality. And the sheath is actually quality. So buy it!

"This is one of three knives that I bought my boyfriend for Valentine's Day! He said that the look is a modern look more than a space look. He loves it though and that's all that matters. " – Adrian Paul Neary "gorehound and splatter punk"

Customer Reviews:
"I've had this knife for years now.Use it for everything except spreading mayonaise (won't fit in the jar)It's awesome!!Hacks frozen meat, chops through bones, cuts my sandwich in half and holds a sharp edge through it all..It is the best cheese slicer I've ever owned.Glides through a block of cheese like butter. Customer Reviews:
"the knife was for my fiance and she loved it more than anything ive gotten her so far. the blade was very sharp, the sheath was in great condition. this is a great knife for its price! " – DragonRider19

Customer Reviews:
"This is a good knife if you want to baton wood or cut saplings/small trees. It is hefty enough to cut down trees and comes pretty sharp. It also isn't heavy enough to really bug you if you are hiking or camping. It is about 1/4 inch thick so it's pretty good for batoning.

The only thing that I have a problem with is that it is a stainless steel blade but the coating isn't. The coating gets streaks on it from wood. The streaks do come off fairly easily.

Customer Reviews:
"Pros:
-The blade is really sturdy and has a saw built into the back.
-comes with a survival kit in the handle (matches, fishing kit, etc.)
-The pommel is a compass.
-good quality sheath
-BOWIE KNIVES ARE AWESOME!

Cons:
-The survival kit is housed in a cheap plastic container, but this is ok because it's in the handle anyway
-The matches that come with the knife are kinda cheap, but you could just replace the with stormproof matches or a fire starter.UCO Stormproof Matches, twin pack (50 matches)

Customer Reviews:
"A pretty good knife for the money. A couple minor flaws but nothing to get exited about. Mine was not sharp at all but now has a pretty good edge on it. My biggest complaint is its balance, being a little too blade heavy for a fighting knife. It does thrust very well however and has a well placed point. It would surley work as a camp knife but the brass strip will get caught splitting firewood. Its a lot of knife for the money however and if your a fan of the Musso design its the best deal going. " – Tim Daugherty

Bowie knives have a blade design which will be familiar to anyone who enjoys studying fighting blades. The clipped end of the blade places the spine of the blade above the tip near the end of the knife. This design is intended to provide better penetration. In a thrusting attack, these knives are nearly as efficient as spears. The clipped end also makes them very agile knives and reduces the weight, increasing the user’s accuracy. At the base of the blade is another hallmark of a Bowie knife.

Every Bowie knife has a hand guard. The traditional hand guard on a Bowie has an angled top piece which points toward the front of the knife. This is intended as protection for the user’s hand. The angle is sometimes said to be used for catching blades, but the proximity to the hand makes it more useful as a deflecting device.

Customer Reviews:
"I previously reviewed the Cold Steel Natchez In San Mai III. That is a great knife but many can't justify spending $385 to $585 on a production Bowie. Well the Cold Steel Natchez Bowie in SK5 is now available from about $165 to $235.The swedge is factory sharpened and is sharper than the original Natchez San Mai III or Laredo. Yes, this is a big knife. It is not as fast as the smaller Laredo but has more weight and power.

The new version comes with Secure-Ex Sheath which will not hold moisture like leather. The leather has it's good points for concealment but the Secure-Ex won't scratch your blade and is a perfect fit. If you want to buy a high quality, big bowie and not have second thoughts about the $500 range of the original, buy this one. You won't be disappointed.

Customer Reviews:
"Looks can be decieving is the exact quote that should be used for this knife. Going off of that statement i dont know if this will affect your judgement of whether or not you buy this knife, its only my opinion.
The knife is 2 pieces 1 being the actual blade and the other being the handle. as far as looks go i get comments on it all the time everywhere i have it, it always is a head turner for sure. as far as sharpness goes your gonna really have to work on the sharpness forever because it is about as dull as they come. and price you cant beat it i mean even for the looks and compliments you will get its worth it but if your lookin for a good, sharp, everyday carry around knife you should definetly go somewhere else.

Customer Reviews:
"One of the best things about this product when I purchased it was the price$79.99. Anymore than that is a waste. I don't consider this as utilitarian knife, but a display knife. The cross guard and the brass blade catcher are not braised and the handle can be taken apart (note: I did not do this but other reviewers have). Display it with pride. The sheath is cheap leather and arrived mildewed--a little bleach and Renaissance Wax took care of that. The words "the Alamo" does not need to be on the blade it cheapens the knife more--after all you get a certificate of authenticity. " – D. Szabo

Customer Reviews:
"Though the knife was longer then I thought it's a great knife! I took it fishing and then camping. After using it to gut a few fish, carve up a few tent steaks and a walking stick its still sharp as new! It has a solid handle. The blade has an insert into the handle adding to it's stability. The only bad thing about this knife is the button on the leather sheath. The button popped off of it the first time I took it off. The knife it's self is great! " – Alin Raven

Customer Reviews:
"This honestly, is an awesome knife. Has a great look and feel to it. You really have to hold, and see this knife in person just to understand how great it is. The sharpness of this knife really wasn't great but decent, but I fixed that pretty quick. So you may have to do a little sharpening if you do buy this knife, but honestly, BUY IT!!

The stag handle feels really good and natural. Most stag knives I have, have this sort of clear glaze to protect the handle, however this one doesn't. Plus for me!
This knife will more then likely be one of your favorite stag knives that you ever own.

The clipped blade of a Bowie knife leaves little ambiguity as to the reasons behind its design. Positioning the tip of the blade lower than the spine lends agility to the point and makes it a more streamlined affair. In practical matters, this means that the tip is more agile when applied to everything from cutting meat to skinning animals. In martial matters, this means that the blade has lethal penetration characteristics and makes it an intimidating weapon. In both the literal and metaphorical senses, the Bowie has a balanced blade.

Bowie knives have blades that are both thick and heavy. Properly used, they can perform in a similar fashion to machetes. The heavy blade of the knife ensures that it can deliver a solid blow, that the blade isn’t prone to bending or breaking and that it is adequate to block another weapon, if needed. Like some other legendary blades, the Bowie knife is associated with a hero. Jim Bowie, an American frontiersman, was renowned for his fighting prowess and his fearlessness.
