"I purchased this item as a gift for a family member.When it first came we loved it.It was the perfect size for a 17 inch laptop and had plenty of room for papers and a book or two without being too bulky.There are a bunch of pockets for storing mp3 players, etc.
However, after less then 4 months of normal every-day use the shoulder strap is completely frayed and falling apart. It is still usable but it looks terrible - you can see the foam padding inside the strap.I'm really shocked that HP would put its name on a product of such poor quality. " – T. Bacon

"This thing is a MONSTER! It can hold as big a laptop as you could possibly own, with room to spare. Lots of compartments, almost too many. Bigger, in this case, is not better for me (but I don't have a giant laptop). Two things to keep in mind: 1. It can slip off your shoulders if you are a smaller framed person. My female co-worker tried it and this was a problem for her. 2. It is too big to be considered your "personal item" as an airline carry on. This is the kicker for me, as I travel quite a bit and my laptop backpack has to count as my personal item so that I can also bring my rolling carry-on suitcase. If you only need to bring a single bag on a short trip, this bag has plenty of room for a change of clothes, toiletries, etc., but if you need to bring more, then this bag will count as your big carry-on with most airlines. "Just in case you wanted to buy Belkin Slim Backpack- don't... This one is way better! The material is very good quality, will last forever, unlike the slim backpack that is made of neoprene. Plus this one is as slim and lite and looks as good.
There are two main compartments inside and a zipper pocket outside. The laltop compartment is padded for better protection, it won't feet a 17", only 15" or smaller. Second compartment is spacious enough for a book or two and it also has a pen holder, a smaller zipper pocket and a couple other things that will hold small items. You also get a removable pouch that easily fits charger which is convinient.
The straps of this backpack are padded as well and are adjustable.

"I had no problem with using this bag through airport security and it fits fine under the seat.It's a very roomy bag and I was able to fit three changes of clothes plus heels.Here's another trick for using this bag: put your liquids in a bag between the two compartments so when you unzip the bag to go through the x-ray machine, you can toss your liquids into a bin.No need to fish it out of the main compartment.
